Honeymoons in Bali 'offer luxury and value'

Engaged couples planning a gap year style honeymoon, which combines luxury travel with voluntary work or once-in-a-lifetime experiences, should consider Bali, an expert has suggested.

According to Mark Henshall, editor at Frommers.com, Bali is a "really romantic" gap year destination known throughout the world for its "incredible" hospitality and luxurious spas.

But there are also plenty of opportunities for newlyweds looking to incorporate voluntary work or other meaningful gap year activities into their Balinese honeymoon.

Mr Henshall added: "It's not just about going to a five-star hotel and having a massage. The religious, spiritual side to Bali is really solid … for people looking for something with a bit more substance to their holiday."

Tom Hall, travel editor at Lonely Planet, recently said the coming months would see growing numbers of Brits seeking a gap year experience in Indonesia, due to the value south-east Asian countries offer those on a budget.
