A retiring drama teacher has announced plans to take a 12-month career break before beginning life as a scriptwriter, it has been reported.
After 35 years' tutoring at Reporoa College in Rotorua, New Zealand, Sharon Welch has a burning desire to do something different.
Speaking to the Rotorua Daily Post, she said she was planning to spend a year recharging her batteries working on a farm.
Ms Welch also has plans to head overseas with her husband during her career break, having spent much of the last four decades concentrating on work.
"I was more than a drama teacher. In my time there, I've worked in just about every department," she stated.
"I'm just so over all the paperwork, I have two rooms full of it to clean out."
Research conducted by Lifetime indicates that a fifth of UK workers are aiming for a change of career during the next 12 months - meaning many will have an ideal opportunity to take a gap year.
