For Brits starting a gap year in Europe, one of the Europe's most iconic cities may be their first port of call.
Thanks to Eurostar, Paris is now just a train ride away from London, meaning it has become a common starting point for people travelling on the continent.
As travel writer Sarah Woods explained, most people are familiar with famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe.
"Now, more than ever, people are wanting to see these iconic cities," she claimed.
Ms Woods said Paris used to have a somewhat 'snooty' air about it, but the French capital has now "captured our hearts and imaginations with its landmark attractions".
For people staying in the city, she suggested accommodation on the outskirts of the city.
"People don't mind travelling in for 15 minutes to come into the centre of Paris. I think they represent more value for money and a more practical solution then trying to book up what in-demand properties in the centre of the city," she said.
