Africa and Asia Venture offer opportunities for graduates unsure about the next step this September.

As thousands of students begin thinking about their next move after university, Africa and Asia Venture (AV) are set to provide a great grounding for both Graduates and PGCE students looking to maximise their soft skills development.  So far, over 5,000 people have joined AV volunteering abroad and there are many additional benefits on their programmes to that of simply gaining work experience.

In September, AV offers a bespoke, graduates-only, volunteer teaching opportunity in remote, rural India with the Lepcha community.  Three months' hands on experience gives the chance to teach in 'day schools', at both primary and secondary level, and in the tiny village 'night schools', where students can range from 5-85 yrs old.

Getting to grips with lesson planning, teaching and adjusting to the daily routine in a poor community with a rich and unusual culture offers huge potential for learning and developing personal skills.  Night school is even more interesting without electricity - candles suffice and the rooms are packed!

Volunteer projects abroad require a 3-month commitment (a full term in a school) plus a month of travel and trekking.  Prices are around £1200 per month and this includes flights, accommodation, living allowance, full back-up, training and support, plus a group trek and personal money for the 3-week, independent travel period.  September departures are popular for graduates as this is the best season to visit India and, historically, they allow just enough time to raise the funding.
